Top 100

October 31, 2013

Recently the infamous DJ Mag Top 100 DJ ranking came out. There has been a lot of negative feedback and rightly so. What a bunch of BS. First off, there are other genres besides commercial house and trance. Not one DnB, HipHop or Breaks Dj is on the list. I’m sorry, but if Andy C isn’t on a DJ top 100 list, it is invalid. And seriously, who the fuck is Hardwell? I’m sure he’s a nice guy but is he really the best DJ in the world? To me his music sounds like one long song, so typical I feel like having a cold shower and crying in the corner.

The old Dj Mag Top 100 lists went through artists in all genres.  It included Djs like Micky Finn, Dj Hype, Dj Premiere and Dj Jazzy Jeff.

I came across this blog post from UK artist Bodyjack. He found the very first DJ Mag Top 100 and posted it. I say it’s still more relevant than any recent DJ Mag Top 100 list. Check it HERE.

I find it lazy on the part of DJ Mag to only include Djs from the House and Trance scenes.  It also speaks loud and clear to readers that the magazine is not so much a supporter of Djs across the board and more a supporter of those Djs that play the most commercial shows, bringing in bigger dollars.  Why?  Maybe so those Djs and the shows hosting them will advertise or continue to.  That in itself speaks volumes to the way all media is being dictated these days.  But that’s a whole other topic!
